How to...download and install AVG Free 8.0.1

(Note: it is not necessary to uninstall AVG 7.5--the process will take care of it.)

1. Open your web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox etc.).
2. In the address slot at the top type: www.download.com. Press the Enter key.
3. In the Download.com search slot type: AVG free, then click SEARCH
4. Scross down to the listing: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0.1 and click the green DOWNLOAD NOW button.
5. The File Download Window Security Warning comes up. Click Run.
6. The download proceeds for many minutes. Patience.
7. X out Download.com, then click RUN in the Security window
8. Now install AVG: Welcome to AVG setup
   1. Click NEXT; click ACCEPT; click ACCEPT
   2. System Status is then checked automatically
   3. Attention! It finds your old AVG--click NEXT
   4. Standard installation--click NEXT
   5. Activate your free license--click NEXT
   6. AVG toolbar--uncheck YES then click NEXT
   7. Click FINISH. Installation happens
9. Configuring AVG click NEXT
   1. Click Next to Scans & Updates or change daily scan time as you wish. NEXT
   2. Help identify new threats--leave unchecked. Click NEXT
   3. Click NEXT for latest updates and OK to reboot.
   4. Register AVG--skip it. Click NEXT. Click FINISH. Click YES to restart
10. After reboot: double click AVG icon on desktop. In AVG window click one of red areas that need attention. To the left click UPDATE.
11. After update: set update schedule if you wish. In the AVG window menu bar click COMPONENTS and click UPDATE MGR. Be sure to start AUTOMATIC UPDATES and set the time interval as you wish.
